Geneva, 15 November 2017 – A new world auction record for a Fancy Light Pink diamond was set this evening at Sotheby’s auction of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels in Geneva when a superb 33.63 carat Fancy Light Pink diamond, mounted as a ring by Harry Winston around 1970, sold for $12,818,240 (CHF12,647,000).

Tonight’s sale at Mandarin Oriental, Geneva also saw a strong results for Noble Jewels, as Sotheby’s celebrates ten years of dedicated sales of jewels with royal and aristocratic provenance. Confirming the passion among collectors for Art Deco jewels, strong prices also emerged in the sale room for a stunning selection of Art Deco jewels, including signed pieces by Cartier and Bulgari.

Collectors from 50 countries took part in today’s auction, driving the total to $78,974,049 (CHF 77,919,025), with 87% of lots sold and 67 % of them achieving prices above high estimates.

Following the sale, David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division said: “Today’s results show the strong and continued appetite from international collectors for jewels with aristocratic provenance, a category we launched 10 years ago and which has gone from strength to strength since then. I am delighted to have set a new auction record this evening for a Fancy Light Pink diamond, exactly one year after the previous record, set here at Sotheby’s in Geneva. This is an exceptionally elegant stone, whose noble provenance also enhanced its value.”
