Montreux Riviera
Winter is a foot along the shores of Lake Geneva.

The first snowflakes have fallen on Montreux Riviera, a sign of the welcoming festive period that is on its way. How about a hot tea or a cheese fondue while enjoying Montreux Noël, a show at the Montreux Comedy Festival, visits to new museums in Vevey or even a stroll 2.0 in Lavaux? Winter offers so many opportunities to spend magical moments on the Swiss Riviera.

Magic and enchantment at Montreux Noël
24th November to 24th December

Now in its 22nd year, Montreux Noël invites you to (re)explore 160 craftspeople and traders along the banks of Lake Geneva. Once night falls, children and adults alike will be enchanted by the sound and light show in the Jardin Magique, or by Santa Claus flying over the market in his sleigh. This is also the opportunity to take to the sky and visit the man with the white beard in his house at Rochers-de-Naye.  Seasonal winter delicacies to warm your heart and soul are also part of the experience.

The great new attraction this year is the Village des Lutins set in the Jardins du Casino Barrière in Montreux. Visitors will be able to watch a Christmas circus and a puppet show, take part in chocolate- or candle-making workshops, or even say hello to Santa Claus's reindeer.

Plenty of laughs at the Montreux Comedy Festival
1st to 5th December

This is the must-see event in the world of comedy. And the watchword for the 2016 Montreux Comedy Festival is 'Let's laugh at everything'. Five galas, all presented by artists taking part for the first time, will keep the laughs coming every evening from Thursday 1 December to Monday 5 December. The 2m2c conference centre will welcome comedians Artus, Thomas Wiesel, Vérino, Jason Goliath and Mike Ward. For English-speaking visitors, the Trending Comics gala on 4 December will be entirely in the language of Shakespeare. At the same time, Jérémy Ferrari will present his show 'Vends deux pièces à Beyrouth' at the Théâtre du Reflet in Vevey on 3 and 4 December.

Meanwhile, the Montreux Web studio will add a digital dimension to the festival with live Facebook events or even the chance to meet famous YouTubers. Once again, the festival will amaze visitors with its ability to deliver a wholly original experience!

The Lavaux wine trail is now open for all wine-lovers to enjoy!

Starting this autumn, a new fun way to explore the vineyard in Lavaux! All visitors need is their smartphone, the free app Vaud:Guide and the time to stroll approximately 10km through Lavaux, the vineyard listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  You'll discover 38 points of interest along your route (service providers, unique features or exceptional views) that provide essential information on the vineyard as well as suggestions for photo opportunities (photo challenge), multiple-choice questions (quiz challenge) and places to visit (radar challenge). If you take part in the different challenges, you'll explore all there is to see to the full and be awarded a score that you can compare on the spot with other participants. The technology used along the route allows wine-lovers to interact with their environment as they walk.

A new reason to visit this unique world heritage site, which will be celebrating 10 years of UNESCO recognition in 2017!

Goodbye 2016, an exceptional year for Montreux Riviera

With the opening of the nest museum and Chaplin's World, the reopening of the Alimentarium, the Fête Fédérale de Musique, the 50th Montreux Jazz Festival and the Festival Images, it's been an extraordinary year on the Montreux Riviera.

These openings and events were highly anticipated by Swiss and international visitors and have had a particularly positive impact on the region, especially with regard to tourism. Between January and September 2016, the Montreux Riviera recorded an increase in total overnight stays of 5.9% and an increase in total arrivals of 6.3% compared with the same period in 2015. Which gives Montreux-Vevey Tourisme something to celebrate!

The months are passing by so quickly, and this newsletter is already the last one of 2016. We'd like to thank you all for following us this year and the many of you whose work helped to make the Montreux Riviera such a vibrant destination.

We look forward to sending you our latest news throughout 2017, and in the meantime wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

See you soon,
