MBSTYLOAFF PRESENTS
“BATTLE OF THE SEXES”
THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN AND PRELUDE TO A 6-DESIGNER SHOWCASE

The Mercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival 2016entered its second day with a six designer fashion showcase and a playful wrestle for supremacy between the sexes. Aptly themedBattle of the Sexes, the evening’s program began with introductions to the “fighting concept”by Datuk Nancy Yeoh, President & CEO of STYLO International and Chairman of MBSTYLOAFF and Mark Raine, Mercedes-Benz Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

"Tonight’s theme – the Battle of the Sexes, is a playful take on the age-old conflicts and interactions between men and women. Tonight we will witness whether women are truly deserving of the term “the fairer sex” in their bid to come up tops in battle.

The Battle of the Sexes theme then continues throughout tonight’s show as we line up 3 menswear and 3 womenswear designers together in a showcase battleof fashion creativity”, said Datuk Nancy Yeoh.

Irrepressible showman extraordinaire, Dato’ Kee Hua Chee then took to the stage as referee for a raucous but humorous 3-round MMA-styled match between the two sexes’ appointed champions.

After the dust settled and the winner proclaimed to great cheers, the fashion show proper began with WONG’s AW 2016 collection of monochrome streetwear, dresses and jumpsuits to kick start the six designer showcase of both men’s and women’s wear.

This was quickly followed by a 60s mod and military inspired collection by Jo Disaya. Chunky accessory detailing was seen across Jo Disaya’s AW 2016 collection whilst the overall look was clean and sophisticated for the modern woman. Next was Bon Zainal’s sharp and dapper, exclusive bespoke tailored menswear. The fabulous showcase continued with Benua by Altimet’s casual clothing and street wear for men with emphasis on sporty graphics, stripes and clean lines.

As an interesting aside, the show then turned its focus on accessories with a showcase of award-winning designer, IIliza Ho’s unorthodox ideas and uniquely crafted shoulder bags, totes and satchels for women. The fashion showcase concluded with Roslan Wilkinson’s handcrafted batik block print shirts and comfortable tropical casual wear in voile cotton from his Heritage Collection.

The night drew to a close with a grand finale withmodels, designers and their fashion muses and festival sponsors on stage followed by the after-show party at Zouk’sImperial room.

Partners and sponsors of MBSTYLOAFF 2016 include Mercedes-Benz, Zouk KL@TREC (official venue), A Cut AboveGroup & Academy (official hairdresser), the Malaysian Hairdressing Association, the Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers Association, Empro Cosmetics and Diva Productions (official make-up).

About STYLO
Launched with Mercedes Benz in 2007 by SPB Tuanku Nur Zahirah, the Raja Permaisuri Agung and Dato' Jimmy Choo, STYLO was conceived as a fashion and lifestyle fringe event in celebration of the 10th year of F1 racing in Sepang.

The first STYLO event, held in March 2008 was called the STYLO KL Fashion Festival. 5 months later, it entered Singapore with Mercedes Benz as its principal sponsor for the launch of the first ever F1 night race in Singapore and was called STYLO  Singapore Fashion Festival.

Two years later it was renamed as the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Grand Prix. Subsequently, STYLO spread its wings beyond Malaysia’s borders with events organised in fashion partnership with Mercedes Benz in Delhi, Mumbai, Prague and Mexico City as it celebrated the combination of speed and fashion.

Next came Jakarta and London in 2011.

In conjunction with Mercedes-Benz’ 150th anniversary celebrations in 2012, Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week (AFW) was born and held its first AFW concurrently as the STYLO Fashion Grand Prix.

Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and STYLO became partners in 2013 with the Malaysia Fashion Week. It is the country's first B2B fashion initiative; in 2015 Malaysia Fashion Week brought RM126 millions of soft exports to the country. The MFW runs concurrently with the AFW, bringing participants from over 17 countries to Malaysia every November.

This year, the Malaysia Formula One will no longer be held in March but in October. STYLO will be showcased as a fashion show at the evening of the Mercedes Benz Petronas F1 party.

However, in maintaining the tradition of having a fashion event every March since 2008, the Mercedes BenzSTYLOAsiaFashionFestival has been created in March featuring Autumn Winter and classic collections from top Asian designers for a B2C showcase. These include accessories designers such as hair, make up, bags and shoes.

About the Malaysia Fashion Week 2016 #MFW2016
Malaysia Fashion Week (MFW) is an international fashion trade and consumer event that gathers over 100 Malaysian and international fashion designers and over thousands of industry players that will be held from 2nd – 5th November 2015 at the MATRADE Exhibition and Convention Center, Kuala Lumpur.

The event will feature a series of “ground breaking” trade fashion shows, a stylish gala award event and a lifestyle trade event for fashion brands, accessories, textiles, cosmetics and personal care, known as the International Trade Malaysia (INTRADE).

The fashion shows for Spring/Summer 2017 will feature Malaysian designers under the Malaysia Fashion Showcase (MFS) banner, together with Asian designers under the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week (MBSTYLOAFW) banner.

It is the only trade fashion event headlined ‘ASIA for ASIA’ with International Awards from MBSTYLOAFW and Datuk Professor Jimmy Choo.
