THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME – THE CAUSE OF A LIFETIME

MAKE TIGER TRACKS WITH THE EASTERN & ORIENTAL EXPRESS
IN AID OF ‘SAVE WILD TIGERS’
2-6TH OCTOBER 2014

The Eastern & Oriental Express hosts a special fund raising journey in aid of Save Wild Tigers from 2 – 6 October 2014. The once in a lifetime journey travels through the tiger’s historic habitat from Singapore, through Malaysia and Thailand and highlights include a Gala dinner at the Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, to be attended by distinguished members of the Malaysian Royal Family, international celebrities and VIPs. This five day adventure includes one night at Raffles, Singapore, two nights on the Eastern & Oriental Express and one night at the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok.

The journey begins at the iconic Raffles, Singapore, where following an exclusive breakfast reception, guests check-in for their journey on the Eastern & Oriental Express. The train then travels through rural Malaysia and onwards to Kuala Lumpur for a star-studded Gala dinner at the Majestic Hotel with a charity auction. The following day, guests are invited to attend a private viewing of a specially curated tiger-art exhibition, at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang. As the train travels on through Thailand,   tiger conservationists provide insights and lectures on the plight of the tigers and project work under way to conserve their wild habitat plus, the option to tour the tiger’s jungle habitat with the expert guides. Excursions include a cruise along the River Kwai with a visit to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre and the Don Rak War Cemetery. The final night at the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, culminates in an exquisite cocktail reception.

Nicolas Pillet, General Manager, Eastern & Oriental Express comments, “We are proud to lend our support to this worthwhile cause – our train travels through the heart of the historic tiger territories in Malaysia and Thailand; it’s a sad fact that today there are more tigers in captivity than there are in the wild. We hope the fundraising gala events on the Eastern & Oriental Express and at our partner hotels will raise significant funds and awareness to help bring these beautiful creatures back from their otherwise certain extinction.”

Simon Clinton, Founder, Save Wild Tigers comments, “With only 10 years left to save this iconic species from extinction, the clock really is ticking. We are really proud & grateful to be working with the Eastern & Oriental Express in providing passengers a chance to experience a trip of a lifetime, for what surely must be the cause of a lifetime. All profits from our fund raising activities will go to global and local targeted tiger conservation projects, funds that are desperately needed.”

In addition to the special journey in October, guests travelling on the Eastern & Oriental Express throughout 2014* will have the opportunity to place silent bids for a stunning and unique Crystal Tiger Sculpture, designed by artist, Lauren Baker– with the winning bid to be revealed on the final night of the ‘Tiger Express’ journey at the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok. The artwork will be on display on the train and a second sculpture will be revealed at the Gala Dinner at the Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and will be one of the star items in the charity auction.

About Save Wild Tigers:

Save Wild Tigers is a global charity initiative set up by Simon Clinton in 2011. Save Wild Tigers work in conjunction with leading conservation charities such as the Born Free Foundation, the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and MYCAT in Malaysia. Working together, their goal is to end the illegal trade in tiger parts and protect wild tigers in their natural habitat.

Simon Clinton, Founder, Save Wild Tigers said: “Our mission is to provide urgent and ongoing targeted support for tiger conservation in a bid to combat and reverse the increasing threat of extinction that wild tigers face.”

Specifically:
  • Raise awareness within Tiger range and non-Tiger range countries of the issues and actions required to save the wild Tiger.
  • To raise significant funds to support global yet targeted Tiger conservation programmes throughout Tiger range countries.
  • Together we are working globally to provide a unified, focussed and coordinated programme of Tiger conservation initiatives including the Born Free Foundation's field projects which engage communities to help secure vital tiger habitat and keep wildlife in the wild; and EIA's investigations which protect the environment with intelligence by exposing the criminal networks that exploit the tiger trade to such deadly effect.
