Africa
Morocco and South Africa but only to main cities with flush toilets and potted plants.

I have been to South America as in Colombia and all the way to an obscure village called Leticia which straddles Colombia, Brazil and Peru within metres of each other so I can technically say I have been to Colombia, Peru and Brazil but truthfully only Bogota and Catagena and Letitia.

But I have never been on safari in Africa!

This is my last frontier since I have been to Greenland and Amazon Basin and gone dog sledging in Greenland.

In fact, most Malaysians have been to London, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Las Vegas, New York, San Francisco, LA, Paris, Korea and Japan but maybe a few hundred have been on safari.

Of course richies have no desire to go to the nearest bush to poo and wee. Or shoot antelopes for dinner. Or shampoo and bath in waterholes with hippos and crocs. Or get shot dead by fearsome tribes.

But staying in 5 star hotels in Cape Town is NOT equivalent to going on safari in a jeep!

Asia to Africa Safaris is now in Malaysia to take care of everything! And yes, you WILL stay in decent, VERY comfortable accommodation even if you are in the middle of nowhere with the nearest airport a few hundred miles away.

I attended a talk by Peter Allison organised by Asia to Africa Safaris and I am now typing this while watching the lions feed a few metres away.

OK so I lie. But see the photos!

Asia to Africa Safaris expands to Malaysia
● Rising affluence in Asia fuels demand for African safaris
● Customised bespoke tours offer 5-star comfort in Africa's wilderness

Asia’s first customised safari travel specialist, Asia to Africa (A to A)
Safaris, have assigned one of their experienced consultants from Hong Kong to meet growing
demand for bespoke, customised luxury safaris from residents in Malaysia.
First set up in Hong Kong 10 years ago, A to A Safaris has seen its business grow tenfold
having organised tailormade tours for over 3,000 clients during the period.

Asia's rising affluence and Africa’s economic emergence in recent years have increased the
country’s attraction for tourists. Wellheeled Asians looking for a departure from the traditional sun,
surf, and shopping holiday experience, are turning to safari experiences in Africa. Statistics from the
South African Tourist authorities showed Asian visitors to Africa grew by about 30% annually over
the past three years.

A to A Safaris was founded in 2002 by former investment bankers, Jose Cortes and Victor Dizon,
both of whom left the corporate jungle for the real one with unspoilt natural beauty and more
amazing wildlife. They were joined in 2004 by the firm’s managing partner, Shy PerezSala.
Mr Dizon added that A to A Safaris’ strong strategic partnerships with top travel operators in
Southern and East Africa allow the company preferred access to leading safari camps, lodges, and
game reserves. “Since we don’t own these facilities, we have no vested interest and have the liberty
to focus entirely on what a client wishes to experience and to plan an individually customised safari.

We don’t subscribe to a ‘one size fits all’ philosophy.”

The company meets face to face with clients to discuss the length of the vacation, type of wildlife
scenery, activities, cultural aspects, and budget.
A to A Safaris can customise a safari for one person as well as for groups as large as 50 or more
people, and is ideally suited for a family holiday with children. The company has organised safaris for
clients from Hong Kong, Singapore, China, and Japan, and today is seeing more business from
Malaysia, India, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Mr Dizon said: “My partners and I have gone on numerous African safaris, with friends and families.
With this firsthand experience, and being Asians ourselves, we have the unique advantage of
understanding the concerns and preferences of our clients from an Asian perspective. These
concerns may include dietary requirements, safety and security, sanitation, and hygiene.”

Safari is a Swahili word which means “to make a journey.” Today’s safaris still retain the sense of
discovery and adventure experienced in safaris of the past, except that the emphasis today is on
conservation rather than hunting, of shooting photographs rather than returning with trophies to hang
on the wall at home.

A to A Safaris organises safaris to 70 exclusive safari destinations in 13 Southern and East African
nations, including Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and
South Africa. The price of an A to A Safaris’ customised package starts from around US$800 per
person per day, inclusive of all accommodation, meals, outings, land transport, and domestic flights
within Africa, but excluding airfare from Asia.
