2013 “YEAR OF THE SNAKE” CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION

Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) together with the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office (HKETO) jointly hosted the Annual Chinese New Year Celebration Dinner for the travel industry on February 21, 2013 in Kuala Lumpur.

About 150 invited business partners and representatives from local tourism industry participated in the dinner celebration held at the Kuala Lumpur Intercontinental Hotel. The MGTO representative in Malaysia took the opportunity to thank the travel trade partners for their continuous support and contribution in the year 2012 and pledges to continue working closely with the travel trades and airlines partners to facilities their marketing efforts in selling Macau as a tourist destination, through MGTO’s continuous aggressive advertising and promotional campaigns, exciting roadshows focusing on Events & Festivals in Macau.

MGTO is eyeing to attract over 350,000 Malaysian visitors to set foot in Macau in 2013, an increase of about 4.5% compared to 2012, as well as to increasing the overnight stays. With the continuous support from travel agents, so many more new upcoming developments and much more attractions to enjoy, Macau will not only be able to attract more visitors, but also encourage more visitors to stay more nights.

Good Evening Ladies& Gentlemen,
On behalf of Macau Government Tourist Office, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you to our Annual Joint Chinese New Year Celebration with Hong Kong Tourism Board and Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office.

Let me take this opportunity wishing you Gong Xi Fa Chai, and be blessed with Good Health, Happiness, Great Success and Prosperity in the year of Snake; Wan Ser Ruyi!

2012 has been quite a challenging year for MGTO. However, with your continuous support, Malaysia continues to be amongst the top tourist source markets for Macau with a total of over (301,802) three hundred thousand Malaysian tourists visited Macau. Overall, Macau enjoyed a total of 28.1 million visitors’ arrivals, registering a growth of 0.3% over 2011.

Macau is gaining popularity as a business travel destination, attracting higher-value tourists with the state-of-the-art conference and convention facilities as well as numerous attractions make it an ideal destination for both business and incentive-travelers.

This year, we look forward to another exciting year working with you, our Travel & Tourism Trade Partners. We shall continue to support in your efforts to sell Macau by continuing our awareness and promotional activities and campaigns, which include billboards, taxi shelters/wraps, mobile advertisements, as well as our exciting roadshows featuring our Events & Festivals in Macau.

We are pleased to announce that, we will be once again organizing the ‘Macau Festival’ to be held from April 5th to 7th 2013, at Sunway Pyramid. The objective of this Consumer Promotion is to further enhance the awareness of Macau by giving the general public the opportunity to further expose to what Macau can offer as a tourist destination; its unique attractions, foods, activities, entertainments and at the same time, to grab the special deals & offers on Macau packages.

Apart from the Festival, MGTO will be celebrating two other major events this year. ‘The Macau International Fireworks Display Contest’ which will be held from September 14th to October 1st, 2013 in conjunction with Macau’s 25th Anniversary Celebration. We will also be celebrating ‘The 60th Anniversary or the Diamond Jubilee of the Macau Grand Prix’ which will be held over two weekends in November with the first race on November 09th to 10th 2013 and the second race November 14th – 17th 2013. Both these milestones events are sure to be celebrated in style and grandeur.

Macau will be hosting the 2nd annual Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTE) on the 15th – 19th September 2013. This annual Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTE) is a high level gathering for key decision makers in the global travel & tourism sectors to gather, share ideas and insights of current tourism situations and tackling timely vital issues.

For the business tourism sector, MGTO continued its Incentive Travel Stimulation Program, introduced the ‘Wedding Incentive Scheme’ as well as the enhanced version of ‘Student Excursion Incentive Scheme’ to promote Macau’s multi-faceted tourism image as the preferred destination for overseas wedding and to attract couples, wedding planners & companies.

To continue our exercise on to reinforce the awareness of Macau, we are pleased to announce our new MY Macau ‘Facebook’ Page to allow our Macau Fans to receiving highlights and latest updates on new developments, events and festivals and activities in Macau.

Also, through the Facebook Page, members will be able to participate in the On-going Contest as well as be able to share these activities with your FB friends. We look forward to welcoming you to be part of MY MACAU Facebook, to all our AMIGOS please do send us your facebook account for us to invite you to enjoy this facilities.

MGTO will continue to host and organize Media & Agents Familiarization Trips for our Amigos and trade partners. This year our annual Meet-In-Macau program will be held in Macau from the 14 – 17 April 2013. This event is a platform for networking & business exchange for both the trade partners in Malaysia and Macau, with the purpose of gathering the tourism industry representatives to meet, discuss and exchange ideas so as to further strengthen the business ties with travel agents, tour operators and incentive planners.
We hope to achieve an increase of 4.5% Malaysia visitors to Macau this year and I strongly believe that with your strong support and our aggressive advertising and promotional campaigns and activities, as well as the latest electronic media to help you in your planning and marketing travel to Macau as well as to stay more nights as there are so much more to do in Macau.
