The Federation of Filipino Associations of Malaysia (FFAM) celebrated 'Federation Night' under the auspices of the Philippines Embassy as FFAM has been recognised and accepted by the Malaysian Government. A total of 26 Filipino Associations from Penang to KL to down south Johore all the way to Sabah were represented by their leaders and members.

So it was a very jolly night. In true Filipino style, there was much feasting, singing and dancing, by stage performers and guests.

A rousing welcome was given to Guest of Honour the Philippines Ambassador who came late but with good reason as he came straight from KLIA having flown in from Manila for the occasion.

The biggest benefactor and most generous sponsor Princess Dr Becky Leogardo was resplendent in Michael Ong Couture. She wanted to wear a peach gown but discovered since it was made 3 months ago she had lost weight and it had become too loose.

Well, better too loose than too tight!

The Filipino band Zipnote performed all night long and they were stupendous---highly entertaining and easy on the eye as the girls were hot and the sole male singer Milky (what an erotic name as it reminds me of sexual juices but then most things remind me of sex) was cool, dishy and of course sexy. And they danced sizzlingly.

The Philippines ambassador His Excellency Eduardo Malaya (how suitable as Malaysia used to be Malaya) in his speech recalled how he initially hesitated to take the post.

"There was an informal survey to determine which capitals were the most sensitive, difficult to handle and important. Can you guess which are the Top 5?

"The toughest post is Beijing because of the ongoing problem between Philippines and China. Second is Washington as USA is the most important country that affects Philippines. Third is Malaysia due to our history! Then comes Riyadh as there are 2 million Filipinos in Saudi Arabia. Last is Tokyo as Japan is also an important trading partner.

"But I am glad I took the post as this is the best time to be  Philippines ambassador to Malaysia. The recent Moro Liberation Front agreement is a landmark in ending the violence in southern Philippines. Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and First Lady Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor visited Manila to witness the signing ceremony nearly 2 months ago. The whole process towards this peace settlement took 11 years but the result is worth every second. Peace has returned to the region and we can all look forward to shared prosperity.

"After the visit of the Malaysian Prime Minister, it is the norm for a reciprocal visit and we look forward to welcoming President Benigno Aquino III to Kuala Lumpur early next year!"

Zipnote Band got everyone heating up the dance floor with excellent renditions of famous songs including ABBA medley and "Gangnam Style'. Some even did the Pco-Poco line dancing which I thought was restricted only to Malays and Indonesians!

Such a fun evening and congratulations to Federation of Filipino Associations in Malaysia!
